About The Old-Time Fiddlers' Championship

Conceived in 1973, The State of Tennessee Old-Time Fiddlers' Championship was the "brain-child" of Dr. Steve Davis, an Austin Peay State University professor. Dedicated to the preservation of old time bluegrass music, Steve forged a trail made of hope, sweat, and "down home" music. Motivated by the fear that someday our southern musical heritage may become extinct, the first Austin Peay State University Old-Time Fiddlers' Championship was held. The pickers came, the dancers came, and a footstompin' good time was had by all.

Throughout its development, The State of Tennessee Old-Time Fiddlers' Championship has provided a musical feast for Tennessee and surrounding states. Realizing the importance of this event, Governor Lamar Alexander proclaimed the contest held at Austin Peay State University the official State of Tennessee Old-Time Fiddlers' Championship.

We would like to extend our thanks to all those who have contributed, sponsored, and attended the event throughout the years. It is our hope that we can continue in this great tradition of conserving our musical heritage. Join us March 11th and 12th, 2016 at Rossview High School for the finest musical buffet in the South.
